Review by Slug "PAST ALL CONCERNS"

Review by Slug Many artists seem to make music in order to have fun and share it, and give a musical simplicity which each listener can appreciate and feel comfortable in from the first tunes; though this particular music seems to be simple, it contains many intelligent ideas and arrangements. Släyd has certainly been rocked by electro, hip-hop, jazz and piano harmonies in his earlier years. As written on this EP title, 1967 appears to be the year when all has begun, personaly, and artistically; and everything is about to change. Then, each song is a confession from the singer and composer, based on rhythms and minialist and jazz piano tunes, which are a perfect root for an ominious, eloquent and melodic work on vocals. All here is as mecanichal as sensitive, like a human, or tented to be human, android. Far from only being a simple rap-like singer who bases his songs on empty musical loops, Släyd composes each song in order to give it a particular subtle and intelligent value and meaning; electronic music is then human thanks to emotional harmonies and tunes, righteous instruments, and an old but brand new sound. All is as mechanical as sensitive, as if one was in front of a human, or tended to be, android. Vocals reveal personal, political and sensitive thoughts, in which each listener would like to confide and find comfort and rest. They reveal deep emotions while revealing new and inner ideas. They also invite us to understand and learn many feelings and thoughts, then look further the appearances. And Släyd's musical concept is based such a paradox: how to create emotions thanks to a cold but captivating music. All songs are mysteries which tend to be solved, understood, and heard. And Släyd is perfectly able to involve each listener in his own passion for music and words; even if such a work on music and lyrics is risky, it is so original, intelligent, and will remain original and new for years. Respect to Släyd...

SLÄYD is a song writer with french and english words. At the beginning of his musical story, he was a drumplayer who had always wanted to create. One day, at the age of 37, he decides to take guitar lessons to get the rudiments of the music. During 4 months he composes 7 tracks. His texts are the reflection of a sensitive soul: "Zorra", the first title, seems to be rather dark; in fact, it's a parody of the accursed poet. "Te jester's smile" and "The flower" are hymns to love."A Malik" telle us the story of a young man killed by the cops while coming back home; it was in 1986 during the students' manifestation. "Le paumé du zinc" draws up the portrait of a man spending his time in pubs and who has no other choice to exist than injuring everybody. Another song is still an instumental. ALL THE WORDS ARE "SPOKEN" ON MUSIC.
